Democratic Sen. Barack Obama won Wednesday night's debate and Republican Sen. John McCain buried any remaining hopes his presidential campaign had along with those of imperiled, down-ticket Republican races.
The turning point was 30 minutes into the debate when, in a stunning display of political incompetence, McCain responded to Bob Schieffer's question about campaign negativism by defying fixed voter attitudes and attempting to blame Obama for the campaign's tone.
