Pulpit-driven, free campaign advertising Sunday
Both media and progressive groups swallowed hook, line and sinker Sunday's Alliance Defense Fund anti-Obama stunt.
The ADF gave its sophisticated media blitz
the catchy name "Pulpit Freedom Sunday."
The ADF allegedly signed up more than 30 ministers in 22 states to preach anti-Obama sermons for the alleged purpose of triggering a legal confrontation with the Internal Revenue Service over endorsement of political candidates by nonprofit organizations.
Never mind that there wasn't a legal scholar in sight who saw any possibility that the ADF could mount a challenge to the law.
Media, bloggers and progressive groups took at face value ADF's claim that "Pulpit Freedom Sunday" was organized for that purpose.
So the ADV got anti-Obama verbiage published in almost every newspaper in the country and voiced through most media outlets on Sunday.
That was a lot of cheap, well-placed, Republican campaign advertising.
